Bio Artist Statement Gallery
Philippe J. Jauzac was born in 1948 in Toulouse, France. He received medical and scientific training in France and, as an MD and PhD, he is currently neurologist and professor of Biochemistry at the University of Caen.
The images in this exhibit were taken during his world travels, both professional and leisure, in more than eleven countries on four continents.
During his January 2007 exhibition Jauzac commented, “I call the show Rooftops of the World, knowing full well there are still countries I long to visit and, with my camera, capture the culture. Hopefully, historical and current architecture will not be lost. In historic and traditional villages, architecture and roof shapes are highly representative of cultural choices. To me, the rooftops are so symbolic. They reflect these cultural differences and yet convey the universality of Mankind.”
Jauzac stated further, “In addition, roofs seen through telephoto lenses allow me to arrange lines and volumes in a way inspired by some of my favorite painters, such as Mondrian.”
